Summer Concert  - best concert yet! What an amazing day we had on Saturday 9th July. After grey skies had stalked us all afternoon the sun shone out and we were absolutely blessed with the blue skies and sunshine. The 100-strong choir performed wonderfully, and the 250-strong audience enjoyed picnics, pimms and a relaxing afternoon. Well done to all choir members!! Oxford City Singers Raced for Life!! On June 26th 22 members of the choir took part in the Cancer Research Race for Life 2011. You can see all the photos from the day here. Our final sponsorship total (and consider that our target was £800) was £2302 - ABSOLUTELY AMAZING!!! Thank you to all who sponsored us! 

Spring Concert in aid of Oxfordshire Mind...

On Saturday 21st May, Oxford City Singers were joined by local amateur and professional musicians in a variety concert to raise money for local mental health charity Oxfordshire Mind. Jazz, opera, new age, classical, pop and musicals...there was something in the programme for all and the final amount raised was £1000 - fantastic!! Thank you to all who took part and to St Michael's for the loan of the church for the evening.

High Sheriff's Community Choirs Concert. On April 10th Singers were invited to take part in a wonderful concert celebrating all things 'community choir' in Oxford. Hosted by the High Sheriff and joined by Oxford Philomusica, the day was fun-filled and an experience all round for those taking part. For some clips of the day click here and for photos, here.

 

Singers hosted a bake sale and raffle in aid of Helen Douglas House & Dogs Trust... on Thursday 24th February, during our rehearsal. Members baked and bought and also purchased raffle tickets - prizes included 2 tickets to an Oxford Playhouse show and a family pass for Blenheim Palace (worth £50!). We raised £348.16 - which is fantastic!! There are a few piccies on our facebook page...

Community Choirs raise money for water...on February 5th Oxford City Singers joined three other local community choirs to host a public choir workshop to raise money for Water Aid. The afternoon was a complete success with well over 120 in attendance - over £1500 was raised!! We were joined by Joined Up Singing, Sounds Fun and Oxford Community Choir.

We're in the paper...again!  The Oxford Journal has written a fantastic feature about the choir in this weeks edition."Eclectic chorus is two years old" is a tale of an epic journey, a bunch of people from Oxford, and a proud choir director. You can have a read of it here.

The Oxford City Singers sing at the annual Lord Mayor's Carol Concert! The Lord Mayor's Carol Concert, which was cancelled on Sunday 19th December due to the snowy weather, was rescheduled to Tuesday 4th January 2011 at Oxford Town Hall. The Oxford City Singers were asked to step-in at the  last-minute to be the  'official' choir for this event! You can read about it in the Oxford Times news article here.

Michelle wins the Friday Song! Well would you believe it, but Michelle just went and won the Jack FM Friday Song competition of 2010! The Oxfordshire public were invited to cast a vote for their favourite and the result was announced live on air on Christmas Eve. You can have a listen by clicking here.

To get the word out about the MIND Charity Concert, Michelle and Tom, joined by a representative from Oxfordshire MIND, braved the cold on the morning of Friday 17th December to do a spot of advertising at Jack FM. You can listen to the feature here, which includes a clip of the choir from the Christmas Concert and also a live performance from Michelle!

MIND Charity Christmas Concert cancelled. A great shame, but due to the foot of snow that fell on the morning of Saturday 18th December, the Christmas Concert in aid of local charity Oxfordshire Mind had to be cancelled. We definitely intend to organise another fundraising event for this worthy cause in 2011 so watch this space!


What are Singers up to this Christmas season? As always we had a  full line up of Charity Carolling and performances all over Oxford this December.  From singing round the tree at the Castle, to performing in the oldest building in Oxford for Oxfordshire Mind, there were lots of opportunities to listen to us this winter. Choir members and a few friends all gathered together on the sunny day that was Sunday 18th July to have a  well deserved BBQ and relaxing afternoon after the excitement and hard work of the Concert the week before. You can see the photos here.

Choir invited to give workshop! The Oxford City Singers were asked to give a 'Choir Workshop' as part of the Oxford Folk Festival 2010. On the beautiful Spring day that was Saturday 17th April, 30 members of the choir and over 20 members of the public joined together to learn about the finer points of community singing. Choir break out the eggs and flour in aid of Haiti! The choir raised over £360 in a bake sale for the Haiti DEC Appeal - treats included homemade Spanish Omelette, musical chocolate brownies and a cake in the shape of a piano! See a photo here.

Members of the choir join to raise money for Haiti! 25 members of the choir took part in a singing workshop to learn and record a Haitian Folk Sing, "Fey-O", to raise money for the DEC Appeal. You can get your hands on the track (which sounds AMAZING!) by visting JustGiving and donating at least £2 - the track will then be sent to you in an email. REHEARSALS CONFIRMED FOR REST OF YEAR: The remaining dates for the weekly rehearsals have now been confirmed and can be found on the Where-When page. Please note that the rehearsal on December 10th will be at our Christmas Concert venue, The University Chaplaincy and NOT at St Michaels.

KARAOKE SOCIAL: Friday 25th Sepetmber will see the 2nd Singers Social! Starting with a buffet chinese at Eamayl on Park End Street we will wsiftly move on to the Duke's Cut for some much needed alocohol to get us in the mood for Karaoke at Thirst Bar. WEBSITE RE-LAUNCH: The website has undergone a major overhaul to make everything more accessible and generally more pleasing to the eye! A tidier homepage and menu mean that all Singers materials (photos, videos, music...) is now available at the click of a button. The site now also features many of the wonderful photos from our Summer Concert.

CHRISTMAS CONCERT CONFIRMED: The date and venue of the Christmas Concert have now been organised - we will be hosting our christmas festivities in the Newman Room of the University Chaplaincy on St Aldate's on Saturday 12th December. Details here.
